Privacy Policy

AskMyGenie, Inc. (“AskMyGenie,” “we,” or “us”) helps creators and self-employed people organize their books and prepare a Schedule C. Doing that means handling sensitive financial information, so we keep this policy plain and specific: what we collect, why, who touches it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to categorize your expenses and build your Schedule C.

  • Account information.Your email address. We sign you in with a one-time “magic link,” so we don’t store a password. During our invite-only period we also record the invite code you used.
  • Business profile. Details you give us to make categorization accurate — your creator vertical or profession, the platforms you create on, and percentages such as home-office or business-use that affect deductions.
  • Financial data you upload. Bank and credit-card statements you import (CSV or PDF), the transactions inside them, and receipts you upload (images or PDFs).
  • Data we derive.AI-suggested categories, Schedule C line assignments, business/personal splits, parsed receipt line items, and the summaries and worksheets we generate from them.
  • Technical data. Basic, security-oriented logs (for example, sign-in events and errors) needed to operate the service. We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.

How we use your information

  • Parse your statements and categorize each transaction onto the correct Schedule C line for your profession.
  • Read your receipts, extract line items, and match or split them against the related bank charge.
  • Produce your deduction breakdowns and downloadable Schedule C worksheet.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve the product.
  • Send you essential messages — sign-in links and important account or service notices. We don’t send marketing email you didn’t ask for.

AI processing

Categorization and receipt reading are done with the help of third-party AI providers (such as Anthropic’s Claude). To return a suggestion, we send the relevant data — for example a transaction description or a receipt image — to the provider, which processes it and sends the result back to us. These providers act as our processors and do not use your data to train their models. AI output is a suggestion, never a final answer: you review and confirm every categorization, and you decide what goes on your return.

How we share information

We do notsell your personal or financial data, and we don’t use it for advertising. We share it only with:

  • Service providers (subprocessors) that run the product on our behalf — cloud hosting, database and file storage, AI processing, and email delivery (for example Vercel, Supabase, and Anthropic). They may process your data only to provide their service to us and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal and safety — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or AskMyGenie.
  • A successor — if AskMyGenie is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Storage and security

Your data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure in the United States. It’s encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is scoped so that you can only see your own records. Uploaded files (statements and receipts) live in private storage and are served through short-lived, signed links rather than public URLs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete individual receipts and uploads at any time inside the app. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal and financial data from our active systems within 30 days, except where we’re required to retain certain records to comply with the law.

Your rights and choices

You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Much of this is self-serve in the app; for anything else, email us and we’ll help. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA — we honor those requests.

Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the app. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

AskMyGenie is for self-employed adults and isn’t directed to anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product and the law evolve. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll give you notice in the app or by email.
